Will it have a gas supply? You can keep the existing plumbing and just replace the back boiler with a gas boiler (you can do everything yourself except fitting the gas).
If you like the fire and want to take advantage of the economy of solid fuel, a Dunsley Baker Neutralizer would allow you to use the heat from the back boiler when the fire is on and use a gas boiler when it's not. see http://www.solidfuel.co.uk/pdfs/link_up.pdf. The Neutralizers are 250ish, a new boiler is around 500+ and then there's the fitting costs.
