Now you have found the letter, have you been back to clarify it with them?
if you took a specially priced deal, it could be for any term!

if its just the contract you are refering to, then ask them the terms for cancellation ... that will focus their mind!
If you have a letter stating 12 months, then where did they get the 18 months one from?
Did you do it online or in store?
You have a letter, one would assume you have the upper hand but do you have the contract?
i took out a supposed contract for internet & phone with line rental they said 18 months to me -reduced cost for 6 months, within 1 month they say the line rental is increasing - its in their Ts & Cs they can do it, but i think a bit underhand, that was 1 of the key factors for going with them gggrrrrr.
Last year I renewed my contract with BT for a further 12 months , 2 months later I received a letter saying they were increasing the cost . I phoned them and said as far as I was concerned they had an obligation to honour the contract they had agreed on , after much huffing and puffing they agreed I could leave them without any penalties.
