Basically a brief outline of what has happened but my ex and i bought a house and there was domestic violence against myself then when my osn was just a newborn he shook him i called the police and their advice was to leave the property as couldnt force him out as he jointly owned it. i fled that day. for 2 1/2 yrs he remained in the property ignoring my solicitors letter where i offered to voluntatry surrender, sign over propety and also organise selling property none of the correspondence was returned. Before we got to caught to force a sale it was reposessed due to him not making any payments towards the property and at same time he then went bankrupt, i have proved his bankruptcy was not due to paying his bills as i was left with all the debt and had bought 3 iphones in one month on his ebay account but they didnt seem to care as he had already been declared bankrupt. Obviously on paper work we are joint inseverally. I have been forced out of my home and due to what happendd unable to return for my own safety. I will never be able to afford the short fall on the mortgage he doesnt pay maintenance and i am on benefit i cant speak to anyone face to face it has to be over phoen and they just wont listen they just said they will hold the account to be reviewed. I dont want this hanging over my head as he has left me in other messes where he took his name off his bills and added mine by sending copies of mortgage statements some of this i have sorted but is there any legal advice anyone could give where they can maybe get a small settle ment figure to clear it so i dont have to go bankrupt as i have also had an injuction against him and his family shortly after i left when my exes father came to my mothers house making threats. I went through all the correct channels to try and resolve the matter and he somehow gets away with it all.

Going bankrupt might turn out to be your best option (as it will give you a 'fresh start'). However you clearly need proper advice. The Consumer Credit Counselling Service is a registered charity dedicated to helping people with debt problems. They've got a free helpline, available from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday. Give them a call on 0800 138 1111.
