Up In The Air

16:17 Fri 18th Jun 2010 |

Up In The Air is one of the most refreshing comedy dramas of recent years. It is a film adaptation of the 2001 novel of the same name, written by Walter Kirn. George Clooney stars as Ryan Bingham who is a corporate downsizer and spends his life travelling the country by plane and firing people.

All the actors do superbly, even those in the minor roles of the fired employees. Clooney plays the character of Bingham perfectly, smooth, suarve and sophisticated. The story line is simple yet effective, has a good twist and lets you connect with the characters well. The success of this movie is almost entirely due to the charm of its leading man.

Bingham’s life consists of airport lounges and air miles and he is happy with that. Unfortunately his company have decided to start using video conferencing to fire people to save money on travel expenses. Bingham is also a motivational speaker who claims that relationships and emotional baggage can drag you down and that to move forward you need to let go of the past. However, when Natalie (Anna Knedrick) and Alex (Vera Farmiga) enter the picture Bingham begins to see the possibility of more in life.
