Anti Speeding Campaign Launched

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

The Department for Transport has launched a campaign which is designed to give motorists a stark warning that if they violate the speed limit and cause a death, it will haunt them forever.

The campaign is primarily aimed at reducing the speed of urban driving and to make sure speed limits are adhered to. It intends to make driving at excessive speeds socially unacceptable.

Entitled “Kill Your Speed Or Live With It”, the initiative will include radio, cinema, online and television advertising.

The TV section includes the ghost of a killed child tormenting the driver who was responsible. The youngster appears in the park where he is playing with his son, as well as in the bathroom mirror.

The road safety minister has said the campaign was "powerful" and he hopes it "will get drivers to kill their speed before it is too late".

He also noted the most recent Think! television spots, in which viewers were shown the different between hitting a child at 30 mph and 40 mph. The minister explained: "its 30 [mph] for a reason."

Car insurance policyholders may find their premiums increased should any penalty points be placed on their licence.
