Common sense has at last prevailed !

"The Magistrates' Association's national chairman, Malcolm Richardson said: "This is an enormous success for the MA (Magistrates' Association) but most importantly for justice in our criminal courts system"

As one who has seen the inappropriate application of the CCC and also one who generally (but not always) supports Conservative policies, I have to say this was one of the most ridiculous policies ever introduced in the Criminal Justice System. There was nothing just about imposing a £520 charge on a penniless shoplifter found guilty of stealing two cans of lager (or even the £150 charge that would have resulted had he pleaded guilty).

I'm glad the charge has been ditched. I wonder if the Magistrates who resigned rather than impose it will be reinstated?
As usual, Mikey mocks the Tories for seeing the light and correcting an error
NJ radio 3 has quite a depressing interview with an articulate ex-magistrate "the one who tried to help a convict" and seemed to have been damaged by the gusto in which the magistrates secretariat took against him

so he resigned and that's it

[ they appear to have alleged malpractice so he resigned to avoid being chucked out ]

Jack...The Tories were told that this was a ridiculous policy.

I am not mocking them for seeing the error of their way but for adopting the policy in the first place.

Why don't you admit the Gove made a balls up ?

NJ is hardly the most left wing of our correspondents....( I have to say this was one of the most ridiculous policies ever introduced in the Criminal Justice System)

What is so difficult in admitting that the Party that you support got it so wrong ?
Unlike the party you support mine admits its errors and corrects them
Another Tory U-Turn !

Wow 3 in a week mikey. They are facing the same way by now then.
Deliberate mistake! I knew you would be pedantic enough to count on your fingers.

The Tories have balls this issue up...why not come clean and admit it ?
Too busy counting Labour ballsups.

Carry on ignoring the obvious if you like !

Barf. Of all my many failings, missing the obvious, is not a trait that I was afflicted with.
Whilst the Cons are doing u turns the Labour Party is still stuck firmly in reverse.
The labour party ? .....who !?
Pity Labour did not make a u turn on immigration when they were in power instead of letting anybody and everybody in.

Now we are stuck with hundreds of thousands of immigrants, all using our health service and school places and driving up the price of houses.

[It is a charge that applies to all adult offenders dealt with for offences committed on or after 13 April 2015

The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP was appointed Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice on 10 May 2015]

Don't despair, mikey. One day you will get something right.

Cameron presided over a RECORD NUMBER of immigrants in the last year - but don't let hard facts get in the way of your propaganda.

No fault of Cameron or the Tories, all the fault of being in the EU, still at least the Tories have promised us a referendum, that is more than can be said for Labour.
