Sad that one of such a young age no matter of what colour. has to end it in such a way,

But this "American cop on black shooting" seems to be totally justified.

divebuddy - //Can we take it then, that you agree that your "hypothetical" comment, wasn't in fact a hypothetical comment. Or do you have some clever definition of what "for the record" means in your world. //

I have said already that I am not minded to get into a pointless fight with you - that still stands.

I have explained why I don't need direct experience to take part in this debate, and neither do you, so we can skip past the 'You don't know what you're talking about' nonsense and move on - if you wish.

andy-hughes, you can attempt to imagine yourself in anyone’s position, but it doesn’t follow that you know how they would react to any given situation. You can indeed, express an opinion, but other people are also at liberty to do that - and sometimes they disagree with you. That's life.
If someone was pointing a gun at me and I was in the US police and I had the chance to shoot first I know what I would do.
Not a tragedy imo, more like good riddance to bad rubbish !

I have no problem with anyone expressing a view based on something of which they have no direct experience - as I pointed out, we all do that every day.

I obviously have no argument with anyone disagreeing with my opinion, and I welcome a chance to discuss our differences.

But neither of those premises are covered by divebuddy's assertion that I don't know what I am talking about!

As | responded - under the terms of referral he is using, he doesn't know what he is talking about either, but surely we have all been here long enough to take as read that we are debating our views and opinions far more often than our direct experiences, and we don't need to point out each and every time which is which.

Andy, I would agree, you are entitled to an opinion, even one based one very little knowledge.
But then you take it to 'Violet Elizabeth Bott' proportions where you just Scream and Scream and Scream until everyone else is Sick of it and just gives up and goes away.
Baldric - one person's exchange of views and expression of opinions is another man's VEB screaming.

If you don't like the way I post, the frequency with which I post, or what I post, please feel free to ignore me on one or more occasions as they mood suits.
andy-hughes, if you insist you know how other people are thinking and feeling, and I quote, “that is a tragedy, for all concerned”, divebuddy is right. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Andy. it's an open forum, your move.

Divebuddy, Indeed.

/// Day after day on all and any topics. ///

I have learnt the lesson, and it is quite simple.
divebuddy - //Pure conjecture served up as unassailable facts, //

If I am serving up conjecture, I endeavour to present it in such a way that it is clear that I am not presenting my opinion as a fact.

The fact that it is only you, and maybe a couple of others, out of the hundreds of people on here, who constantly look to start an argument, or just generally snipe and dig and waffle, says more about you than about me.

If anyone wonders about the difference between what I offer as fact, and opinion, they are more than welcome to ask, and I will clarify, but it is only you and your cohorts who regularly do so - and as I say, that says more about you than about me.

// while everybody who demurs is wrong. //

Not so. If I believe someone is factually wrong, I will challenge them, but by definition, no-one's opinion is wrong, and I never say to anyone that their opinion is wrong - anymore than I ever tell people that I don't know what I am talking about - another exclusive preserve of you and your small collection of yay-sayers.

If my view / opinion / personality / whatever, causes you such vexation, do as AOG has done and flounce off and take your ball home, I doubt you will miss my interaction, I can assure you I won't miss yours.

Gordon Bennett, ( is that one T or 2 ?)

I presume we are once more playing the last word game, how utterly tedious.
SnookerPlayer - as I explained to Balkdric, and to Divebuddy, and now it seems to you -

Interaction with me is not compulsory - you are fully entitled to ignore each and everything I say - indeed I would actively encourage you so to do, while I am dealing with the snipers and gripers - you have joined in at exactly the right moment.
-- answer removed --
divebuddy - you really shouldn't try to encourage SnnokerPlayer into your bad habits.

You are old enough to know better.

andy-hughes, //I am not presenting my opinion as a fact. //

From you at 13:10 Fri //The police officer involved, his family and friends, the young man shot dead, his family and friends, people like me who think a young life cut short like this is a tragedy - we'd all disagree with you on that.//

The police officer involved would disagree with me on that? Really? I see nothing to suggest that the Police Officer’s opinion has been sought and therefore, since you state categorically that he would disagree with me, you are, indeed, presenting your opinion as fact.
