Does anyone ponder why so many British passport holding Sudanese are in Sudan?
One chap on the front page of today's Telegraph is weeping because he had left his wife & son there when he boarded the plane.

He is described as a taxi-driver; I was wondering how a British taxi-driver can afford the time & money to take his family for a visit to Sudan, - any ideas please?

I think if British passport holders choose to live in an unstable dangerous place like Sudan, they should bear the consequences. I'm already fed up hearing about this, and think the warring factions should be left to get on with it - nothing to do with us anymore
Many have family there.

From the link, "Mr Ahmed, 60, was a bus driver in Bedfordshire who returned to Sudan in 2014 to take up farming."

Not a taxi-driver and not on holiday.
I think if these British passport holders are on holiday, then yes bring them home. But those residing there .............leave them. They chose to live in an unstable country.
What a bizarre comment
Just in case the article has been amended, I could not view the whole piece and accessed a version timed at 6:05pm yesterday.

The link in the OP shows a time of 5:03 this morning.
Thank God Ukrainians are mostly white Christians is all I can think of saying :-)
And most aren't even British :-)
Imanaged to access tje version in the OP which states, "Mr Ahmed was a bus driver in Bedfordshire before returning to Sudan in 2014 to focus on farming."

A slight change regarding the farming but he was not a taxi-driver on holiday.
SHARONA, by your logic, did the holidaymakers not choose to visit an unstable country?
Corby by my reckoning, Sudan has been unstable since they overthrew the last president.
British when it suits them....

I wonder why, for a British passport-holding national with job opportunities in Britain, would want to take his family to farm in Sudan?

Is Sudanese farming, (surely subsistence level?) vis-à-vis British taxi-driving a great career move?

Out of interest, I just googled, 'Farming in Sudan' & got;

**What problems do farmers face in Sudan?

Throughout much of the country, water resources are limited, soil fertility is low, heat stresses are on the rise and drought is common. These conditions lead to loss of livestock, land and property, all of which are a major factor of impoverishment.**
Sudan used to be part of our empire so it is not surprising there are many Sudanese with connections to this country

the comments above suggesting those uk citizens who reside in sudan should simply be left there are despicable and shameful
I blame General Gordon.
//the comments above suggesting those uk citizens who reside in sudan should simply be left there are despicable and shameful//

WHY? If you choose to live in a country long-term surely you accept it with all its plusses and minuses not go scurrying for a safe(r) haven if something happens that you don't like.
Maybe Brits abroad should have their passport revoked after x number of years? Cliff Richard gave up his.
KHANDRO, the man used to drive a bus not a taxi and there could be any number of reasons why he chose to move to the Sudan.

He has been there for eight year but wanted out because of the fighting which does not appear to be an unreasonable desire.
“ If you choose to live in a country long-term surely you accept it with all its plusses and minuses”

and therefore… what? they should just be abandoned to their fate? that would be a truly evil thing to do.
DAVEBRO, do you not think a civil war is more than just something not to like.
