Quiffs

Question Author

I have considered that, but I'm stumped about 34a. Gentle hints accepted :)

First word is a number

There is one at Welford on Avon

I am stuck though on 31d which should link to 20d, but I can't thinkof anything suitable

Question Author

Thanks for that!
 I'm stuck on 31d too...

31 D follows 38 A, I think...(Ididn't check Brewer's)

Question Author

I think I have it...

There's one in Bristol...think the Sun and "a band used to support a stocking", often coming before belt.

-- answer removed --

That's what I worked out from NACs clue, but I then don't like the preamble "one (answer is a) pair or individually" applies to 31d, but that just means that 20d is an individual, because it doesn't pair with anything, and is therefore not listed in the preamble!

Question Author

I suppose it wouldn't be the first time the preamble has been a tad confusing...

Agreed, but the answers we have, I am pretty sure are correct.

The preamble lists the irregularities (6 of two words, 1 of 3 words and one that could be an individual or part of a pair......and therefore all others are one word......it is just a shame that there is only one "one word" answer. If there had been 3 or 4 one word answers, the preamble wouldn't have been so confusing!

JJ109, I often ignore the preambles... well. Doc's!

Question Author

Probably good advice, because it is what it is, as the saying goes.

I'm away and don't have access to "Brewer".

Is 3D something that be hunted, or something that can be milked?

Milked

...

Question Author

I'm going with something that can be hunted. It seems a common name for a themed establishment.

... but only the milked one is in Brewer's...

Question Author

I don't own a copy of Brewer's so I always have to wing it ;)

Fleshpots... someone, not me, once provided an online link for Brewer's.  I think it followed on from someone, some people feeling 'disadvantaged' by not having a copy.

Question Author

It does feel sometimes like I'm missing something when Brewer is mentioned in the preamble.

Question Author

And when it comes to working out the unclued answers in particular.
