It's not against Site Rules to ask for help. Members (like Hops for example) can ask for help. You have the option to try and help or choose to ignore the thread. If you want to alert the person who created the quiz to the thread then that's fine, however, please don't try and discourage Hops or anyone else from asking questions on The AnswerBank.

Commercialism rules OK.

Even a cursory glance show no b in commercialism.

I was told by the Ed at the time we could say when someone asked a quiz were the setter had requested no asking on the internet so that then it is up to those answering to decide what to do. I did not do that on this thread by the way and I always put for info only. Are you saying we can no longer do that. Will you allow the setter of the quiz to do that if they are a member of AB

Canary42, it's just something I don't have time to police. Where are the quiz rules? Who is the setter? I don't have the time to find out.

The AnswerBank's rules are clear and we don't adopt rules.

Smouse, it's fine to mention that a setter has asked for people not to assist others on particular quizzes. It doesn't need to go much further than that.

If someone wants to make others aware a quiz is, "no asking" that is fine but anyone who asks for help or anyone giving hints or answers should not be criticized for doing so.

Correct.

SpareEd- if you go into Q&P and look at Tips for getting better answer etc you will see under number 2 Please state the name number and date etc

i expect this is the rule people are referring to.Sorry I cannot post  link very easily since the emoji thing started

That's just tips and etiquette, which will help to get a better answer. It's not part of the Site Rules.

Including the name and closing date helps to give publicity to the quiz and stops similar quizzes being confused.

It also helps if folk want to use the search facility to look for previous threads or answers about the same quiz.

Quite Corby

fiche/microfiche is also a very small photograph.

Still can't see where the wick in Fishwick comes from though.

Stanhope, Peeblesshire

Stanhope (optical bijou) - Wikipedia

Stanhopes or Stanho-scopes are optical devices that enable the viewing of microphotographs without using a microscope

SpareEd that is an old thread you have linked to about guidlines the latest one which I am surprised you do not know says this

NOTICE: Please remember it is vital that you add contact details i.e. email or postal address, the closing date, the cost, where the quiz funds will be going and the theme of the quiz, thanks.

Sorry posted wrong comment but it is still different to the one the Ed posted

If you are asking for help with a quiz, please can you ensure to include the quiz title and closing date.

smouse, the ABspare editor posted that link which helps to get a better answer. What you have posted, is how best to list A NEW QUIZ.

Question Author

much obliged cali, that's the one, best, hops

I corrected that with my post that followed and lots of people quote that when people don't say what the quiz is etc. Not something I do but the Ed's post was 2021 this is on the 2023 quiz site

I presume you didn't notice my correction

You're welcome,hops. Good Luck!
