Not sure if DIY is right section but here goes. I'm having a stair lift removed (it came with house and is broken) but when the rail is unscrewed there will be several small holes in the carpet. I can't afford to replace the carpet. Any ideas how I can make these holes safe and also make sure they don't fray or that the cats don't scrabble them bigger? I've been thinking along the lines of a clear glue but I'm. Not sure. Googling hasn't come up with an answer.

Hmmm......not sure how big the holes are yet, but it's an idea thank you.
Vissy, my next door neighbour who's now deceased had one of these fitted, when removed you could not tell the fitting had been there, only the one's in the Wall.

Really? I can trip over the smallest thing! I've just looked and there aren't any attachments to the wall so that's good :-)
What they done when fitted, they must have use a Pointed punch to go through the carpet ( If they just drilled, the drill would have wound the carpet wool out of the carpet) by using the pointed punch they went through the carpet & into the wooden staircase thus avoiding damage to the carpet, but I'm going off the removal of the one next door, I presume yours will be the same & hope it save's you money.
To add, I should think there should be holes in the wall as it will have needed this for Strength, but easy to sort out with filler.

Thanks. Think I will just take the bull by the horns and take the thing out. I will see properly what I'm dealing with. Hopefully nothing then!
How about a darning needle and some wool as close to the colour of the carpet, it shouldn't really notice if the holes are only small.
