Wine of the week.
37 Answers
My nomination for wine of the week is Makutu Bay Marlborough Sauvignon - currently down to £4.99 (rrp £9.99) in Sainsbury's.
I also thought the wine I tried in Café Rouge in Gun Wharf yesterday was worth a mention - Picpoul de Pinet. I've never tried it before and was delighted with it. It's dry, grassy and herbaceous, well rounded, with a lingering finish. I can highly recommend it. I will be looking out for more of this wine on my shopping expeditions.

I bought a Yellowtail Shiraz (normally £6.48 a bottle) which is one of my all time favourite reds, along with a Chilean Sauv and a bottle of rather crap Prosecco, normally priced at £4.99 or thereabouts. Avoid screw-top proseccos like the plague!!
However, had I just bought 3 Shiraz, the saving would have been considerable when you triple the unit price.

I'm a bit of a wine philastine, like sweet white and fruity red, not keen on dry wines at all.
I don't drink red very often because of the dryness, the nicest I've probably had were in Romania and Budapest, lovely and fruity and not dry tasting at all (I'm with Boo on the Ribena!).
Often drink white or rose with lemonade to make it sweeter (love whisky with ginger beer too).
I like fortified wine and port though, love mulled wine.
We had a free wine tasting session in work last week, a promotional thing where they hope you go on to buy some of their wine, had about 5 whites then 5 reds then a port and cognac (urgh). Good quality wines but wouldn't have bought any of them, too pricey for me to violate with the likes of lemonade :)

Me too :) I have too much of a sweet tooth I think! Can't drink things like gin or brandy either and will more often than not have lime in lager.
Spirits wise I'm more of a sweet martini, Archers, Malibu etc... girl. Saying that, I developed a serious thing for Amaretto sours after my brother's wedding in Canada last year!
Only ever drink out really, very very rarely at home and never occurs to me to buy anything like wine for home, I just drink diluted cordial by the pint glass (after mainlining coffee during the day).

I don't mind a drop of Malibu with Cola and am rather partial to an Amaretto on ice, after dinner, but am not a lover of sweet drinks as a rule.
I do like a nice G&T when I'm flying.
I think I'm going to treat myself to a bottle of Monopole Rosé this Xmas - strawberries, cream and toasted brioche in a glass... Yum !
