I've just seen the most humongous massive snails I've ever seen on tv!

It was on a kids program and this woman had on in her hand and it covered the whole of her hand and im not even lying! What snails are these and are these edible?

I am down to just two now, tlhey are fascinating to watch slithering up the side of their tank. They grow incredibly quickly from the size of your little finger nail to tennis ball size in a matter of weeks. Very easy to keep, mine love lettuce (round only) and cucumber. I had six at one time but they don't live that long, only a few years.

You can buy them in the markets in West London, (to eat!) but some people go there to 'rescue' them. They lay hundreds of eggs and you have to kill them off by freezing them. They are illegal to keep in many states in the US as they eat the crops. One of mine got out and was on the wall - when I 'prized' him off (they have a hell of a grip) he had eaten the wallpaper. When they are on your hand you can feel them scraping the skin. They are fascinating when they come right out of their shell, they have a huge 'foot' muscle which they pull themselves along with.
