What a wicked world in which we live. That a 93 year old should have her life ended by such cruelty, beggars belief. What kind of person could deal such viciousness to a frail victim? When and if the culprits are caught I agree with excelsior.
Condolences to her familyfrom the bottom of my heart.

Brenden, exactly.
There is no defence for this crime imo.
capital punishment is the only answer to stop the murder of innocent people..the scum who do this would soon think twice about killing someone,or attacking someone which could result in their victims death if they thought their actions were going to be them strapped to a gurney with a lethal injection being given...or falling through a trapdoor with a noose around their neck...its about time this subject was give a public vote in the uk...
Or make a life sentence life, with no parole- as was promised when the death penalty was abolished.
stokemaveric, i wish you were right, but i don't think it would stop these people. The death penalty won't return to Britain, it was done away with for very good reasons. Mostly that it's inhumane, which seems perverse, but we cannot be a society to say you must not kill and then be the instigator of that policy.
Brenden, it's what i would do. For capital crimes, life should mean life, not get out of jail early for being a good boy/girl.
<<capital punishment is the only answer to stop the murder of innocent people.>>

I hate to disillusion you stoke but all the evidence here and abroad is that neither removing capitol punishment nor reinstating it makes any statistically significant difference to murder rates.
"I hate to disillusion you stoke but all the evidence here and abroad is that neither removing capitol punishment nor reinstating it makes any statistically significant difference to murder rates. "

No, but it solves the problem of re-offending !
And it deprives the guilty of the life they saw fit to have deprived others of.
^ true, but it also deprives people who have been wrongly convicted of their lives...
<No, but it solves the problem of re-offending ! >

And how much of the murder rate you are so concerned with due to convicted murderers, released from prison then killing again?
That is clearly a nonsense argument.

<And it deprives the guilty of the life they saw fit to have deprived others of.>

So does locking someone up for a long time which is what happens to the majority of convicted murderers.

If by 'depriving of life' you mean killing people, then you obviously have more in common with murderers than i would care to have.
"And how much of the murder rate you are so concerned with due to convicted murderers, released from prison then killing again?"

where does it specifically mention murdering again ?

"If by 'depriving of life' you mean killing people, then you obviously have more in common with murderers than i would care to have"

you seem to be worried about the murderers

That was clearly a nonsense reply from you
If the murderer/s who committed this evil crime were caught, proven guilty beyond any reasonable doubt, I would be the first to step up and give them the injection.

Would that make me a murderer?

I'd call it ridding this earth of an evil waste of oxygen.
P.S. My deepest sympathy to the lady's loved ones.

back from work.

just read the thread, a lot of very interesting comments, thank you all
That is dreadful news, I hope they catch the bastewards and lock them up for life. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
Nope - sorry...if a relative of mine had been murdered, I would much rather they be banged up in Belmarsh for 20 years.

And before anyone comments on the 'holiday camp' atmosphere of Britain's prisons with Internet access, X-Boxes and hot and cold running call girls on tap, I assure you that's absolutely NOT the case for serious offenders.

That kind of prison is for your cat C inmates.

Also, prison is not like an episode of 'Porridge'.

I had a member of my extended family locked up and it was the very living embodiment of a crappy, crappy 'life'.
Ermmm - except for the hot and cold running call girls. I made that up.
it makes me wonder if it was a family member to get some inheritance, call me cynical, i thought this before the couple whose kids died in the house fire were arrested today, so now its making me wonder even more as it was quoted that 87% of crimes are committed by people you know. If it wasnt a robbery then why else do it?
