Depends what you're eating with the rice. Coconut milk, stock/broth, orange or lemon, tomato sauce

fry an onion and tghen boil it with some garlic, ginger, fennel & cumin with some cardomens.  You could add other things if you wish.

No need to splash with anything then.

Otherwise how about a jus?

Stir in some Butter and a bit of coarse black pepper with a splash of Worcester or Soy sauce.

Chinese-style curry sauce or satay sauce. Available in sachets if you don't want to make your own. Similarly, sweet and sour sauce.

Korean style BBQ sauce (available from Tesco at least)

Thank you all.

Hot sauce.

Mexican Tajin powder...a bit citrusy with a kick.

Question Author

I've  ordered some tajin powder.  It sounds just what I was looking for.

Read to the end please.

I make rice in the microwave. I use Basmati.

1 part rice to 1.5 parts water.

Add a blob of butter or olive oil as it helps keeps the grains seperate.

Cook for 13 mins for enough for two, fluff with a fork and leave it till ready to use. Then reheat for 50secs, fluff up and serve perfect rice, every time!

Now to answer the question. Add some seasoning along with the oil and water if wished. A pinch of salt maybe, before cooking.

If we are having an Indian type meal I add a good sprinkle of curry powder or Garam Masala, maybe Tumeric too to add some yellow colour. If Chinesey I add Chinese spices (mauve top spice jar).

No reason why you cannot add some chilli or piri piri or any other flavouring.

Also if having Chinese style dinner I serve fried rice. Put a tablespoon of oil in a wok or frying pan and crack an egg in it stiring till nearly set, then add the rice anf rfey on high heat adding some prawns, chicken, beef or all the above. Add some peas and a few splashes of soy sauce and serve.

All the above are really tasty and easy.

Hope you like it Sandy...I throw it in everything. It's good in eggs and on fish.
