so they can s1agg off the government? is it more important to be able to berate a Tory government than to actually find an answer?
They said 18 months, we start trials on Thursday surely that is cause for optimism??

In fairness to 3T, I can certainly imagine someone (let's name them "Diddlyteaca ke") finding negative spin on my this.

will the nattering Nabobs (*) of negativism er be negative (**)
(*) thank you spiro T agnew for that one - and I will forgive 3T if he really does ask in a whimy voice - "what dat den - end of!" foo even.
(**) He ( spiro that is!) pronounced Nabob - as nar-barb instead of nay-bob - but never mind and also misunderstood its meaning - english trader and profiteer in India 1800-25. - and they werent negative - they were too busy earning moolah on Trump like scales
Now we need Naomi obvious optimist - to scowl and be negative for a change and wonder - if the vaccine is safe
and will it work - the early vaccines for typhoid, paratyphoid and cholera didnt - work
and you can raise antibodies ( with an infection or a vaccine ) and they may not work either ( stall or prevent an infection) - herpes was like that, malaria, trips
apparently the disease is not prevalent enough ( common to you and me) to measure a preventive effect ......

// I just think it's the most stupid way to post a question like this.//
yup I noticed that
news of a vaccine
and someone actually forms the thought - not "will the vaccines work (hopes )" etc
but will people queue up to say - "ugh that idea is silly!"
I find it pretty easy to be negative about such an approach
but hey ho it is after midnigth and it IS answerbank !

PP, I don't know if you've read this report outta China

that says a man tested positive three times, being pronounced cured after each one. It seems we really don't know much about the virus yet, which makes me suspect a vaccine won't be developed any time soon.

An alternative outcome is that this virus behaves similarly to flu and becomes seasonal, continually mutating just enough to avoid effective vaccine treatment, or that it is only effective for a year or two.
I'm simply not qualified to say whether either these is likely or merely pessimistic, but what I *can* say with confidence is that starting human trials in itself isn't enough to get me excited. It's amazing that we've got a vaccine ready for human trials so quickly, and even more so that this isn't even the only potential vaccine at or near this stage, but it will be at least a few months before I or anyone else here should really take notice.

I don't suppose it's commonplace yet, PP, but... it was in China, the ground zero of the virus, so victims have had more time to develop relapses or second infections. So it may be you can be infected every six weeks or so only we haven't yet had time for it to happen here.
Which is why I'm extremely wary of lifting restrictions just yet. We really don't know a lot. Countries that locked down early and tested like crazy seem to be doing okay. Britain isn't in that position. So I think we've just got to cross our fingers and wait quite a while longer.

Yes, it is a cause for optimism, and no I won't use it to *** off the Government (blimey, there's enough ammunition for that already, we don't need any more).
It seems to me all the slagging off on this thread is coming from the Government supporters. To suggest that anyone will pray it won't work is slanderous in the extreme.
The nasty bunch were those who let the pandemic run wild before critics such as Jeremy Corbyn got them to perform a U-turn. But in their passion for smearing Jeremy, the Nasties will blithely ignore his compassionate appeal, as they slavishly adore Boris too-little-too-late Johnson and Dominic let-the-old-die Cummings.

I’ve no idea what you’re rambling on about - no change there - but you must have missed what I said earlier in the thread. Do pay attention, there’s a good chap.
