It is his own business - he's a leader, people can follow him or not.  For my part, I don't follow him. I agree with what he says in this instance, but if I didn't then he wouldn't change my mind because I'm not religious. Many people are religious, though, and for them (especially Catholics and maybe Christians more generally) the Pope's thoughts are worth thinking about. After all, apparently 🤔, Jesus and his family fled to Egypt to escape Herod's attempt to kill all male infants in Bethlehem (Matthew 2:13-15) ...

I don't imagine His Holiness is too much troubled by illegal migrants, living where he does. He might like to canvass those in the country that surrounds the enclave which is ridiculously afforded the status of a nation state, to see how they feel.
