the answer is... exist.

israelis claim that their country was "a land without a people for a people without a land." there were of course others there already. israel simply doesn't consider them to be people.

This incident pre-dated the hamas attack in October 2023.

It only underlines that this is not a new war.  The people on both sides want peace. 

Hamas and the Israeli govt are keeping the hostilities going.
