A Pope is not meant to be biased towards a particular nation. But I can't understand fuss. Nothing a religious leader says has power over a democratically elected government and can be ignored when disapproved of.

No, but they have power over elections.

If the pope says it might be a good idea to follow the teachings of Jesus - compassion for other people, not committing adultery or crime, generally being a good person etc - and reject people that do otherwise, the largely Catholic Hispanic population of america might take the hint.

That's what the Trump cult is afraid of.
