Andrew Norfolk Dies
Every outlet is saying he exposed the grooming gangs, which isn't true.
Perhaps he was the first the powers that be couldn't ignore and lean on to ***.

Andrew Norfolk would have been under immense pressure not to run the grooming gangs story, and for that, many grooming gang survivors are truly grateful (as I have witnessed on X).
Hopefully, the likes of Charlie Peters will keep up the fight to bring child rapists and child rapist enablers to justice.
Rest in Peace Andrew Norfolk

Yes, it's sad that he doesn't get the attention he deserves. He was late getting started on the story (by about 6 years!) because he knew it was a deeply unpopular cause but he did it anyway and his young editor made sure it stayed on the front pages of The Times for a considerable time. All of the 'serious' media went against them. They all swallowed Ken Livingstone's line that it was simply a far-right plot (I think even Anne Cryer investigated the parents' political links first before she got involved back in 2007).
He was right, of course - I don't think the establishment bestowed a single honour upon him - all he got was death threats and a mountain of abuse for the one error he made in that adoption story. He got a couple of press awards (for what they're worth) and I've read a few kind words from our PM since he died, but they're self-aggrandizing words at the same time, and pretty much make me sick given his role in the lead up to the few miserable convictions we've seen.
By the way, I can assure you that the abuse he reported on was well known about in media circles even before Cryer raised the issue, but no-one would touch it with a bargepole.
It's sad that Andrew Norfolk echoed the old lie about the far-right towards the end - it's ordinary working-class people who care most about this disgraceful scandal, because it's their kids who suffered (and still suffer at the hands of the same vile mob). I don't hold it against him because of all of us he actually took a stand when it mattered most.
RIP Andrew Norfolk, you were a very brave and principled man.
