Clues annotated with (Sc) will be a Scottish or Scottish dialect word, term or slang. If not annotated (Sc) then it's a normal British/English word or term. I can't guarantee given letters are correct yet as it's difficult, sometimes with obscure spelling variations.

20d. Fish guard (6) B?M?E?

24a. Old Turkish rock band to set in order (4) ??D?

Possibly TIDY (can't parse)

24d. Hairstyle pads for informers (4) ??T?

If 24a is TIDY then 24d lettercount will be T?T?

Many thanks (PS. I've got all the obscure difficult Scottish answers and it's a change to struggle with the normal clues).

20d bumper

24a is Redd

"Redd" means "tidied" or "tidy".

Many thanks for your help.

For 20d I get the 'bumper' relationship to 'guard' - I just can't see the connection to fish (unless it's got something to do with 'angle'

Any connection I'm not seeing?

Bumper is a type of fish also known as bumperfish.

12. pechie

Question Author

23a. HEBDOMADER

12a. HECHLE (although PECHLE or PECHIE have similar meaning descriptions and actually fit the letter count and grid)!

Dictionaries of the Scots Language:: SND :: hechle

Dictionaries of the Scots Language:: SND :: pech - describes PECHLE as frequent form. But HECHLE appears as perfect description, while PECHIE as short winded can be found, but appears to be more obscure than HECHLE

If any of that gobbledygook makes sense?

Don't know how to post links so please copy/cut and paste 'links' into browser.

Thanks all once again
