A announcement has just been received that Google chrome has turned it off. What are the implications? Do I need to install something else?

Google has done this because they want you to use their new adblocker Manifest V3.

I use Brave and Opera as my browsers as they automatically block adverts. I still have Google as the search engine.

You could try Adblock Plus

I am mistaken in my previous post - Manifest is not an adblocker, it is an adblock blocker

The point was that some browsers explicitly stated they didn't and wouldn't.
