I agree , we moved into our bungalow a month a go and first job once the garden actually dries a bit is to fill in the pond . Our grandchildren are more precious than the odd duck flying down onto it
Dreadful thing to happen - the poor parents must be suffering so much - but small children and ponds can co-exist. My two youngest grandchildren (now 4 and 6) have grown up with a pond from their births. It was a simple matter to net it for safety. Toddlers have to be watched, but accidents will always happen. Sad.
Not necessarily stupid, TTT: perhaps thinking like most of us do "It'll never happen to me.". A terrible thing: those two boys are dead, and the parents are going to be dead inside for the rest of their lives.
Its very sad.
My parents have a pond, and all 4 of their grandchildren went to visit and played in the garden while small without any of us thinking the pond should be filled in.
You just have to watch the kids.
