Why do intelligent women fall for this scam ?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38715353

Surely alarm bells should start ringing , when these suitors start asking for large sums of money .

In one case a victim's bank contacted her and warned her that they believed that she was being the victim of fraud - she refused to believe the bank

Love is blind...
They want to believe that they are loved.......because they are lonely or have very low self esteem etc etc etc....very sad really.
Never underestimate the power of loneliness.
Because it only happens to 'other people', never 'people like me'.
Pure loneliness and a tad gullible.

Single, lonely, desperate, and a tad depressed about it is a rather toxic cocktail. Unfortunately everyone is vulnerable, no matter how intelligent they may be normally, if they are in an emotionally difficult state. Leads to bad decision-making. And then there are always nasty people who will exploit this.
A lot gullible in my opinion.
I saw an article on internet about this subject a couple of months ago where people had added their comments. One man said Where can I find one of these women......
A fool and her money, etc.
I wonder if people really believe that in the right (ie wrong) circumstances, they'd never fall for such things, or if they are just lucky. Either way, it's sad when people get into the positions where they think this is sensible. It never turns out well.
Agree with jim, it's that toxic cocktail that does it.
