And my first thought was ... They found that the US and world governments or some dark conglomerate are planning on taking over the world by means of a super bug of some sort. They tried to stop it, it got out of hand and they had to kill to get away..

Maybe they are both now living quite happily in some forsaken place in the U.S. concocting ways and means of delivering a superbug to wipe out everything except themselves? :-D
