Can't see any indication that they have resigned their seats as Councillors though. So.... they will continue despite not being members of the Party that people voted for.

If my local Labour MP or Councillor resigned for the Party, I would expect him or her to resign his or her seat with immediate affect, thus triggering a by-Election.

I would expect nothing different from any other Party.

Well I vote for the individual rather than the party. Don't tell anyone but in council elections I vote Labour simply because my Labour councillor is far more effective at getting things done than was her Tory predecessor.

Jack....you may very well do. You could say the same about your local MP, in that one is far more effective at getting things done than another.

But most people don't do that.....they look down the list and see which person is the representative of the Party that they support, and then vote accordingly.

So, by default, the political Party is important. These 17 have now abandoned the Party under which they were elected.

Mikey, I’ll try again. In my opinion people who jump ship should stand for re-election because, as Prudie intimates, they may have turned into politicians embracing a philosophy that is a far cry from that upon which they were elected. Clearer?
