Question Author
this was because of smoke damage in the fire..
They? The insurance company?

You must ask then Kate - if they can be salvaged at all surely they would return them.
Question Author
I also had a lovely rangers picture I won in a competition.it was made up with fivers and a £20 note(90 pounds in total)
if they pay out for them - no - it becomes theirs

why are you asking us and not them?
Question Author
oh peter, sorry I asked, you didn't have to answer,I was asking to see if anyone else knew.I am not in touch with insurance people, son is.anyway I wont bether having a conversation on here.,you are so rude.
Don't worry Kate, who is dealing with the insurance people?

I think there is a valid point about if they have paid out they won't return but it's best to try and make certain. Especially with something so personal.
PP...pure bull.
Question Author
the photos are irreplaceable, they are of mum and brother which are the only ones we have.i will get son to ask the ins. people as they are still sorting things out.
It's worth trying, let us know how you get on.
I would imaging they'd try to get all personal photographs back to you, as they're good to no one else and have no monetary value. However that's just from my initial thoughts i've no actual clue nor legal knowledge.
Question Author
the ins. company are so good, they have bent over backwards to help us,even giving me extra nights in an hotel so I can buy a new bed,i have a big long list of things that is not getting returned, thats no problem though as they are paying for new,it was just the photo's.
Question Author
I wonder if they would take the photo's out of the frames if I asked them?
Yes i think it's worth asking, for sure
tell ins co to scan photos to you via email. You will always have access to them regardless of any catastrophy, so long as you keep your email account.
Question Author
thanks everyone
Slinky if you can get them emailed to you, you can then transfer them to memory / USB stick and get them professionally reprinted buy a local printing / photo shop.
Question Author

Glad all has ended well for you Slinky
