48 Hours....

Hi everyone. This is a covid related question. Has anyone heard of a work place (in particular an office) telling staff that if 1 member of staff is in the office on any particular day that there that another member of staff cannot go into the office until 48 hours has lapsed - the reason being that covid germs can only survive on certain surfaces for no more than 48 hours. So thereby the premises would be covid free (if there was any present in the first place) after 48 hours? Sorry its an odd question. Theres so much more to it which would probably explain it better but I dont want to go into too much detail. Thank you.

No but I have heard more than once that some surfaces need 72 hours so it wouldn't surprise if some offices were taking the ultra-safe line - which would be 72 not 48 hours.

I'm afraid it simply demonstrates the paranoia that has visited large sections of the population. Extend that a little and as soon as a few people have sat on a bus or train and touched the handrails etc., the vehicle must be taken out of service for 48 hours.

I think has anybody else heard of this is maybe not a relevant or useful question? I don’t mean this to be rude but if that is how that company have decided to comply with the covid security rules for businesses, then I am not sure what can be done about it.

Nj as I understand it busses are sanitised ar regular intervals and people are advised to gel or wash frequently when travelling

With regards to the bus comment - woofgang- the handrails, posts and seats are not cleaned, wiped down or sanitised after each passenger left the seat & nor are they left free for 48 hours until the next passenger sits on it. The reason for my question is that this is being put in place because the member of staff who is going back to work in the office on their own (while everyone else in the company is working from home) he has been advised he will need to work 5 days a week (they normally work 4 days a week). The reason behind this is on the day he would not normally work no one else can come into the office to look after it because it wont be contaminate free for when he comes back in the next day. woofgang what does your comment mean "I think has anybody else heard of this is maybe not a relevant or useful question?" I didnt realise each question posted on here had to be relevant or useful to every single person who reads it.

the virus cannot exist on its own outside its host, it needs something to carry it. cough or sneeze fall out will do, but even large droplets will dry in minutes, killing the virus. where it can persist is in the oily secretions in fingerprints, which can linger for 48-72 hours.

public transport operators may not wipe everything down after every passenger, but they do use these during the day

if your company is saying nobody may follow you within 2 days, it's probably because nobody is cleaning the office. the committee of the society I belong to says the same about their headquarters for the same reason, they don't employ cleaners.

Many offices are open and containing several people, each sat at their own desk.

Desk sharing or hot desking is more of an issue, but still possible with proper disinfecting of the space using something like this:

I'd suggest they read the covid safety guidelines for offices, as they seem to have gone a bit overboard

At our place following Public health guidance: we social distance in the office and / or wear masks. Wash hands often. We may have to share a desk through the week but have our own keyboard and mouse. Clean workstations before and after each user. Clean touchpoints (door handles, switches,screens) after use and every 2 hours.

Its the employers choice. If the feel the can manage that fine. A simple end of day good clean with spray should be fine tho. A know the judge on here mocks me and thinks am a wimp for bein carefull of door hangles with Corona but a dont care anymore.

and people say "yes' or 'no" and it doesn't take you any further forward...it has no effect at all on the situation that you or your colleague or friend find themselves in.

Don't take on so, bobbin. I said in an earlier question that I'm not mocking you or laughing at you. I thanked you for explaining your views and telling us what you do and that was that. I am just generally interested in how people are approaching the virus matter in their different ways. I have my own views on how the matter should be approached which are well known but I don't expect everybody to share those views. I don't mock anybody for doing what they want to do. We're all different and all have our own different approaches.
