Told Off In Sainsburys!

After reading Sparkly's rant i thought i woukd tell you i got told off in Sainsburys today!

I was so upset as i always try to adhere to all the guidelines. I was wearing my mask and the cashier was behind a glass/perspex sceen. I packed and payed as usual but as she gave me my change and i thanked her as usual, she said "in future can you stand back from the screen".

I was so surprised as i didn't realise i had got it wrong, that i said "oh im so sorry" and scuttled off embarrassed.

I was still thinking about it when i got home and told MrK, he said i should of asked her how far i shoukd stand back, any further back and i dont think i would have been able to reach.

piggy, what "own thing" was darcey doing? The screen is a barrier, end of, doesn't matter if you are close or not.

What stands our for me about the behaviour of the cashier is the point at which she spoke to Darcey.

If indeed Darcey's position at the checkout was a problem or dangerous then the cashier should have politely mentioned it well before Darcey had packed and paid.

Gness - yes, you are so right, if she had said it before i had packed & paid i could have adjusted my position, it was rather odd.

Bednobs - my phrase "been told off" was said very tongue in cheek tho i did feel like a naughty schoolgirl. Ha ha!

If there's a screen, and it's any use, how near you get to your side ought not matter to anyone on the other side.

In Tesco I was told to stand at the end of the picking up bit, but I then had to lean over and stretch virtually my whole torso over the area to reach my stuff. It’s all a bit daft, but we have to do what we’re told, I suppose [sigh].

Don't worry about it. Maybe she had soggy cornflakes for breakfast and it has upset her for the day.

If they have markings on the floor to indicate where to stand when loading your shopping on the belt and then packing and paying at the other end there shouldn't be a problem.If Sainsbury's have a problem brought about by customer's paying cash then they should request card payment.The space required for cash payment should have been taken into account in that particular store and the cashier should have been equipped with an adequate mask and gloves.If all in place and you reasonably observed all necessary requests perhaps a word with the supervisor at the checkouts.

Seems a bit excessive, but given their recent musings I too wonder whether it's worth giving them a wide-berth.

I’ve found Sainsburys to be far and away the most amenable supermarket in this situation.
Tesco I vowed never to go back to on the other hand.
Easier said then done though.
A lot of it depends on the people no doubt and the local manager perhaps

If I had have been told to step back - I would have asked how far do you want me to go as there is near screen like at my back, so I couldn't have moved back. All the screens are tight thus allowing one person to go up the check-out.

NJ, you get told off if you don’t.
Actually you don’t. It’s a free for all now. But you get the odd one who wants to be pernickety. I find it easier and less stressful to just do what I’m told. Get in and get out as soon as possible.

Personally I'd have been so peed off I'd have gone to customer service and complained. You had a mask on for goodness sake. However many barriers do they need between customers? Another example of some of the population either scared to death or wallowing in their new found powers or both.

The folk in our local shop are very friendly.
But I wouldn’t want to stray through their door sans mask.
They banned children months ago.
WH Smiths advises you not to handle any book you aren’t planning to buy.

I think I’d have complained too, tho in the spirit of wanting something clarified. I’d not want to get a staff member in trouble who might just have been having a bad day. I wouldn’t want them suffering because of all this
