Tooth Taken Out

Hi,I had a lower molar taken out on Monday,it’s now Wednesday and the pain seems better,but not sure cavity area is ok.I know it’s important not to disturb the blood clot/seal that forms so healing can take place,but mine seems to dipped significantly,it’s still there,but is no longer near the top of the hole-Is this normal? Only concerned because Google mentions ‘dry socket’

Ring your dentist and ask them.

as long as it is still there it should be fine. You would usually experience pain with dry socket, and sometimes a horrible taste.

If you had dry socket then you'd be in a lot of pain ring for advice but it probably needs a little longer to resolve.

It is normal.

Swill some warm salt water round and spit, it helps the healing.

Sounds ok to me if you have no pain/ swelling. Its never a bad idea to swill you're month with warmish salt water 3/ 4 times a day, so easy and can keep infection away, lots of folk don't bother, but its really a two second job, hold the salt water in your month for a few seconds each time.

Check with your dentist. When I had a tooth out I was told not to use a rinse/mouthwash as it could dislodge the clot. Dry socket is agony!

The advice I am always given is, don’t use any mouthwashes for 24 hours then warm salt water three times a day held in the mouth, as described by teacake. I’ve had a lot of molars out and never had any problems using these rules.

Dry socket hurts like hell, we get loads come in to my hospital and have an extraction only to come back a few days later with dry socket, mainly because they have ignored the aftercare advice and started smoking as soon as the have left the hospital

my upper and lower back molar were taken out 2 weeks today and I am healing ok. I was told not to eat on that side for the 2 weeks but I gently touched with my tongue and there is no pain. My dentist gave me a Mouthwash Em - it has anctibeterial(sp) (too tired to spell). But do rinse with warm saltish water. I have never had dry socket but believe it is horrendous so I think you will be ok.

emily - it hurt alright cos I kept asking for more freeze and whatever was in the freeze - I started to fit and my heart was beating out of me and there were no handles on the chair so thought I was going to land on the floor. The little assistant was trying to hold me down.

Anything you want to know cos I have had the experience of it all LOL

also use a very soft toothbrush - I am using sensodyne soft - need more actually.
