There is evidence that in most of these areas the rise is due to to multiple occupation housing and poor vaccine take up. Should these areas have strictly controlled boundaries to protect others?

I'm not suggesting that 'flu is as serious as Covid, teacake. But 'flu claims 20k victims (or thereabouts) each and every year. Surely if we want to mitigate those numbers we should all wear masks all the time shouldn't we?

NJ, Unless I've miss read some of your past posts, you've always stated that we have to accept an acceptable death rate for most illnesses or viruses, so the 20 k flu one is the one we accept. At this moment in time we are not sure of what that acceptable figure will be for covid, but I'm sure sooner or later there will have to be one.

Sorry, tc, I haven't made myself clear (my fault).

What I'm saying is that we're not expected to roam around with masks on every winter, even though 20k people die of 'flu each and every year. Yet now it's being suggested that masking up will become almost permanent even though the Covid virus will become "lived with" in the same way as 'flu is.

as nj says, flu etc..so if i catch a cold or flu what should i panic

Tora is surely right: the virus will, like all viruses or bacterial infections pretty much anywhere become an endemic illness at worst which is vaccinated against.
As far as face masks go, it’ll probably be the case that ciné will continue to wear them. But voluntarily.
People in the Far East generally have worn them against air pollution. and that’s something else we should be addressing

I must admit that if I lived or worked in a city with a lot of air pollution, I would wear a mask. Pollution is our greatest threat.
