Barsel, I hope you got some rest last night even though you answered my post in the wee small hours.
I do understand where you are coming from. I think we are of a similar age and we both have our dearest, long-standing friend living many miles from us.
5 years ago (tomorrow) my friend had a heart attack. When she was discharged from hospital she went back to her home where she had to look after herself.
I quickly booked my ferry, drove through England and Wales and had a drive through the early hours in Ireland. I stayed there for 2 weeks to do everything I could for her. Admittedly there was no lockdown then.
I am a very practical sort of person so I find it easier to be present and do what ever needs to be done. As your friend has a supportive family I can see that there is less comparison from that point on.
My friend and I spend hours chatting on video link, every day. The support we give each other is immeasurable and that defines our friendship in a nutshell. We are very honest with each other.
I am taking my OH to hospital soon for biopsies for bone cancer so accept my best wishes for your friend and yourself.
