my young son has had his mobile phone stolen and we've had a funny phonecall. someone told me you can put a block on it then the thief cant use it. id be grateful if someone could tell me how. many thanks.

We had the same thing... simply call your service provider and ask them to "lock" the numer... happens immediately...

We have had this too, by calling your service provider they will block the sim card immediately. they should in theory block the IMEI number within 48 hours, however I watched a tv programme tonight which showed that some companies aren't doing this within this time scale and a phone continued to work some 49 days after contacting the service provider. Also although it is illegal in the UK to unblock a phone it can be done and then the phone can be re-used.

this will only work if you have registered the phone with your service provider,ie some people on pay as you go do not register the phone.
