I'll always remember him for his portrayal of the hapless Dangerous Davies, the Last Detective. I'd like to believe that when writing the books, Leslie Thomas (who also wrote the screenplay for the film) had Bernard Cribbins in mind:-)

RIP
A great innings, but sad nonetheless. He was such an amazing storyteller, from The Wombles, to classic Jackanory appearances to, as someone else mentioned earlier, Old Jack's Boat on Cebeebies.

Somewhere, there's a hole in the ground containing the remains of some geezer on a bowler hat.

RIP Bernard.
"Right, " said Fred, "Both of us together
One each end and steady as we go."
Tried to shift it, couldn't even lift it
We was getting nowhere
And so we had a cuppa tea
Loved him, some lovely 'work' left behind for us to treasure. I loved the children's programme Old Jack's Boat made in 2013-15.
Originally from Oldham. RIP.
Sad news, sorry to hear this yesterday, being a wombles fan... and the Hotel inspector is a classic.

RIP Bernard Cribbins
I remember him mostly from Jackanory when I used to get home from school.

RIP Bernard
thanks for posting this.
when I first heard about the death of bernard cribbins, I was honestly shocked about the lack of respect. people I met on the street would be quick to say yeah, he was 93, probably his time, but less quick to remember him, comment on his career, I even had people look at me like I'd gone mad and ask me who's bernard cribbins?

seeing all this love for him makes my heart melt, so thank you guys

he first came to my attention via the song gossip calypso which I love, and still own (actually I own the best of cd), and I saw him in the wombles and fawlty towers

perhaps my best memory of bernard is playing the old fisherman old jack,, in the appropriately named " old jack's boat", from 2013 to 2015. his somewhat out their stories he told to his dog salty always put a smile on my face, and the fact that he could just do all the voices and make it come to life... oh it was amazing!

I am absolutely heartbroken to read about his death- on friday afternoon I stood in the shower wailing he's gone, he's gone!- and I didn't even do that for michael jackson, and I cried for him for a year.

as emily (one of the villagers) says in old jack's boat, we'll never forget you, jack- and I know I won't.

RIP
