Had a hip replacement last week got to sleep on back for 6 weeks. When I finally get to sleep wake up after a short while with terrible wind.suck on antacids then the burping starts. After a while settles down and I fall asleep. This happens 3 times a night. I am exhausted. I do suffer from acid reflux so I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Anyone got any ideas to help me would be appreciated. Thanks
Have you tried not eating for 4 hours before bed; putting an extra pillow on the bed so you are more propped up - putting one and top of the another and a third lengthways will support your upper body; different types of antacids, ask your pharmacist - if you have see if your GP will prescribe a PPI medicine such as omeprazole.
Sucking on antacids, or anything, can make you burp as you are swallowing air. Try a liquid antacid such as Gaviscon or own brand equivalent
My advice, for what it's worth, would be to sleep as upright as you possibly can well supported by pillows. I had problems sleeping after my hip replacement and found sleeping almost sitting up worked for me. I soon got used to it, and it also works with the acid reflux.
