Really Loud Gurgling Stomach!

For days now my tummy has been gurgling ridiculously loud. It's not even tummy rumbling sounds, as in when you're hungry - this is gurgling as in it sounds like liquid bubbling. It's so loud it's silly. I'm not hungry, I'm eating normally, I don't have tummy ache at all, or an upset stomach. My husband can even hear it when sat on the sofa opposite me! I feel well and haven't eaten anything different whatsoever. Any ideas??

have you tried probiotics?

like yakult (other brands are available)

Question Author

Hi Red - you ok? No I haven't tried those actually - they're milk based aren't they?

They are but you can get lactose free versions too if needs be, stomachs can sent off balance especially if you are on lots of meds and just need the good bacteria resettling

I'm fine thanks

Question Author

Yes I'm on 11 tabs a day, plus pain relief.

So, had you drunk something ?

You could also try foods like yogurt(without added nasties), sauerkraut or other fermented foods.

Question Author

Hi OG. drunk something as in alcohol?? No.

Might be a good idea to get checked out, I am sitting here listening to OH's stomach doing the same.  He has gastritis diagnosed with gastroscopy.

Question Author

Ohhh, isn't gastritis painful??

Perhaps your painkillers are masking it, Smow?

I have the same problem.    I have ibs and diverticular disease, both diagnosed and both can cause digestive problems.  Gastro specialist advises probiotics, not yakult etc which isn't very effective apparently.  I would ask a trained pharmacist to advise  best tablets or capsules.

Anxiety can add to it because anxiety makes you overbreathe and take more air into your gastric system.  The louder noises are often made by the muscles that move the contents of your bowel working too hard.

I would follow the advice to get it checked out  though.

No pain, he also has diverculitis which is painful when it flares up.  Has omeprazole on prescription.

I do also have IBS, but have never had this before. Ok, I'll give it another day to see if it settles down, and then contact my GP.

Hi Smow

Have you tried KEFIR ?? It smells awful and doesn't taste much better but I have been "on it " for about 2 years now - 1 small glass before breakfast and settles me down for the rest of the day. I also have diverticular disease and am just getting over a bad "bout". Hope this helps

Hi FB - well, I have zero sense of smell so maybe it won't be as bad for me to try lol.

Didn't have to be alcohol. Tea or coffee can sometimes do the same to me. Good luck with finding out anyway.
