Don't know, but I remember the wonderful smell.  OH is tempted totake it up  he's so old now that he may as well.....

I remember my grandad smoking the delicious smelling "thick twist".

They must.

There's a tobacconist that sells pipe tobacco and pipes that's been in our local High Street for as long as I can remember, and it's still there, even though a lot of the sops round it are now empty.

I used to smoke a pipe, black cherry was my favourite, bought it loose from a tobacconist.

I do, but it doesn't contain a lot of tobacco,,,

Our next door neighbour was always seen with a pipe in his gob! It never contained tobacco.

My Father in Law used to smoke a pipe and back in the days when people still smoked in cars, he enjoyed nothing less than smoking his pipe and taking his family out for a drive. Occasionally the pipe would go out and he'd pass it to his wife who'd get it going again. It was quite funny seeing the reactions of passers by, especially when the traffic was slow,  seeing this elderly woman smoking a pipe.

I had two uncles who were pipe "smokers". I put "smokers" in quotes because my memory is that they spent very little time actually smoking - cleaning, scraping the bowl, filling tamping, lighting, quick smoke, lighting, lighting.................. etc. I think they are more of a hobby than a means of getting a nocotine fix.

When I was about fifteen I went through a (now embarrassing) phase of smoking a pipe - something to do while listening to The Incredible String Band and reading Lord of the Rings.  Used to buy aromatic Clan tobacco, though for some reason the lovely smell was only available to those not smoking the pipe.

I had an uncle who was an inveterate pipe-smoker (St Bruno tobacco) whose teeth were very worn down on the side where he always had the pipe clamped in his mouth, even when unlit.

My dad used to smoke a pipe sometimes. I personally couldn't stand the smell of tobacco burning!
