Do I really need McAfee? Or is there a better (and cheaper) alternative?

If you have Windows it's commonly accepted it's supplied AV is now adequate. But you can switch to another if you wish.

I use Avast which is free and have no problems with it.  If you do put another program on instead of the dreaded McAfee make sure you remove it first using a program like Revo Uninstaller which is also free.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I'll have a look.

@13.06...Avast which is free.

There is a free version and also a paid-for one. Make sure you opt for the free version and not the free trial of the paid-for one!

I've been using the free versions of Advanced System Care & Zone Alarm for years. Not had any problems.

Nobody actually needs any third party security software.  The built-in protection that comes with Windows is perfectly adequate.

Software from the likes of McAfee and Norton is far more likely to slow your computer than it is to do it any good at all.

Advanced System Care has lots of other functionalities.

Thank you all for your replies. Definitely giving McAfee the elbow!

On Which's advice I junked Kaspersky and got the free Bitdefender. I am very impressed with it.
