It was a fluke majority. No doubt at all about that. It was the result of pathetic govt from the Tories and people were prepared to vote for anyone but them, much to the benefit of Labour.

I wonder how many signatories didn't bother voting in the election.

Remember when Maggie introduced the poll tax, fighting and rioting in the streets and she was forced to backtrack, makes you think with this level of dissatisfaction in the country, when the petition has no effect what will be next, just a thought!

If nothing else it illustrates that Labour will spend another decade in 'the wilderness' again before being in a position to con the public with porkies.

btw 2,613,243 as I write

Why?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0en07gezrdo

"MPs will debate an online petition calling for a re-run of July's general election, after it garnered over 2.7 million signatures.

A debate has been scheduled in Westminster Hall, a secondary debating chamber where such petitions are discussed, on 6 January."

Isn't it undemocratic to insist a poor government means one should rehold the election as soon as it's obvious they aren't coping ? Surely the onus is on the Labour MPs to call for a lack of confidence vote should they wish to do so.

Otherwise the back benchers could decide to ignore whips and try to steer strategy back to how those who voted for them expected it to be.

Yeah, well, we know what the 6th Jan 25 verdict will be already.

What I find interesting is I wonder if the nearly 3 million who has signed the petition to get Labour out, we're actually the ones that voted them in.
