I hope the safeguards around any proposals are as strong as can be.

I'm very much a fence sitter with this one.  I just really, really don't trust the establishment with life and death decisions.

"2 doctors would have to assess the woman and the situation"

that is still the case jourdain

I see that my MP did not vote. If I'm still around for the next General Election I'll not be voting for her.

I thought you voted for Sinn Fein/IRA sandy.I thought they didnt take their seats at Westminster?

There was an election pact between Sinn Fein and the SDLP.

Sinn Fein stood aside in South Belfast , giving the SDLP a clear run.  They won.

The SDLP returned the favour in North Belfast where Sinn Fein won a seat.

Sinn Fein don't go to parliament.  This is an important issue and my MP should have voted.

Dumb answer from TTT "you do have the right, OD, jump off of something". Yep lying terminally I'll, semi-paralyzed in a a hospital, just find something handy to jump off.

davebro3, spot on dignitas if you have the funds.. almost like a comedy sketch, now now then your not goin anywhere son, your nicked for trying to end your suffering, hands up if you disagree, so you admit it.

seem's we are putting a lot of trust in a government that struggles to get anything right

Bednobs, technically yes, but effectively we have abortion on demand now.

tommy39, i think this would go beyond the present government, with safety and laws, were talking about people on there last legs who just want to go peacefully, and no others

Why the hell have the Mods allowed the drift to Irish Politics on this thread - totally irrelevant off topic.

Fitt died in his bed in his London flat.

  The Republicans didn't touch him.

But let's stick to the matter at hand.

ynnafymmi, this thread is about the Assisted Dying bill not Sinn Féin or the IRA so please stick to the topic.

They shoot horses don't they.....

erm ira, 0 to do with assisted dying but i digress, mods plz take that out.

That post was deleted an hour ago.

It seems that many people decide what they want the situation to be, then propose the scenario that justifies it.

The fact is that some assisted dying is reasonable - like in Esther Rantzen's case for example - and that means that assisted dying should be legal to cover such cases - without meaning that other scenarios will also become legalised.

Still a way to go before it becomes law.

Nobody is a burden to society. I fear Assisted Dying will coerce people into thinking they are.

We seem to be moving further away from honouring the sanctity of life.

Not a good day
