i have been off sick twice since may 2007 with a viral infection each period of abscence lasting a week, my employer is having a dismissal hearing with me because of this if they dismiss me am i entitled to any payment in lieu of notice

These are the minimums - your specific contract of employment may allow for more notice than this.
The employer may ask you to work the notice period - there is legal obligation to pay you money in lieu.
However dismissal on a first occasion of warning for this would seem really harsh (and hence prossibly unfair) - have you previously been subject to disciplinary hearings regarding your attendance?
