Electrical Incident Light

I have a 51 Clio Dynamique and the electrical incident light comes on intermittently. It has been back to the garage and they have replaced the air flow filter as the air/fuel mix was incorrect. This seemed to solve the problem. Then within a few weeks it came on again. This time they cleaned the fuel pipe as it was dirty. It has happened again today. When it happens the revs go madly high then fall down to nothing and the engine cuts out or idles irratically. Any advice would be useful as it's my daughters first car and I need it to be reliable for her.
