top up tv free months trial

having just bought a new Thomson DTR with a months free top up tv,
i have followed all the set up steps, and registered on line to top up tv.
they told me to tune in to channel 5.
do they mean normal channel 5 on the digi box and leave it there for 1 hr.??
and all so the quick set up guide says insert the chip facing up, but the other guide says chip down!!!
which way is right???
any other advice would be great to ..thnx
