I ruptured my ACL 8 years ago and just recently found out last summer. Now I am having a hard time deciding whether or not to get it surgically repaired (I am currently 26). My knee has dislocated multiple times in the past 8 years so I am wondering if the damage is already done or if there would be some benefit to getting it fixed. I am very active and am able to do everything I wish to do with some occasional knee pain. My knee only dislocates about once every few months or so. Any advice would be helpful!!!

ACL repair is a successful operation if performed by an expert.

Make enquiries re. Orthopaedic Units and surgeons who perform this proceedure.
My ex-husband had it done. Had to have several weeks off work which stretched to a good couple of months because it was worse than they (the consultants) first thought. But because of his age (29) it was well worth doing it. If you don't do it you may end up having more problems with it later and more reluctance from the docs to do it.

Good luck!
