Scalded skin syndrome is a skin infection characterised by damage to the skin, with marked shedding (exfoliation). It usually affects infants and children under the age of 5.
Treatment is usually through antibiotics that are specific for staphylococcus which are given to help fight the infection. Because much fluid is lost through the open skin, supplemental intravenous fluid may be important to prevent dehydration.
Moist compresses to the skin may improve comfort. An emollient may be applied to keep the skin moist. Healing begins in about 10 days following treatment.
In most cases the prognosis is usually excellent and full recovery i expected.
If this is not the illness you refer to I apologise in advance.

Oh thankyou both so much for your replies. I tried to look it up but couldnt find much about it. Poor little mite is only 10 months old and they look so sore and awful on him. He has been quite good in himself considering. My poor daughter felt terrible when they said it was scolded/burn she thought something awful had happened. But when they said it was a syndrome she felt better about it.He had antibiotics last week for it and has finished it up but a few more have now broken out so she was taking him back to the doctors today. Thought I would just tell u my story about scolded skin syndrome...my dad lives in sa went to hospital really ill plus they tht it was bedsores. after 10 days we moved him out of the hospital as they cant do anything for him and took him to a new carehome. The sister was amazing and one look at him she diagnosed him with ss. aparently someone whether it was one of the staff or a visitor or someone carries the organism and they patient/child picks it up. apparently they do nose/throat swobs to see who the carrier is. the carrier is neva sick or has these sores. So tht maybe check in the family or creche if anyone is the carrier...hope your little grandson gets betta soon....strange how i got the info today and find your message on the internet.....hope this helps
