I dont know if its changed today, but why is it Man Utd and Liverpool do not want to wear the poppy on their shirts over the weekend. All the other premier league clubs are doing it. To say red clashes with their shirts is rubbish, as lots of teams who play in red shirts are wearing them.

I find this disrespectful but maybe Im just being old fashioned. I dont think I am.

Whats yr opinion ......

so tell me what the problem is then....i think its a bit more than one and a half hours dont u
I thought footballers were not allowed to wear any badges or jewellery during a match. How do they fix the badges to their shirts and ensure that they stay there?

Man U support the Poppy Appeal by allowing the selling of the poppies at the ground,I should imagine that would amount to a lot of money considering gate numbers at Old Trafford.
I can't remember football teams wearing them before this season, though I am not a big footie fan. Why would any of them need to wear them during the match anyway? The whole point of a poppy is that a donation is made, if every premiere league player makes a donation they can wear a poppy, I do not agree in corporate poppy provision, some of those players may wear the poppy, but how many will actually make a straight forward donation directly into a collection tub? They wear a staff uniform like everyone else but they should be able to decide what sort of poppy, if any, that they wear.
daffy, they could have them printed on their shirts. !
Whatever the costs for printing would be better spent donating straight to the Poppy Appeal though tony :-)
tony if they did that, who has made the personal donation to the charity? How much would each player be asked to donate? When the donation is no longer viluntary , including the amount, it totally loses it's meaning.
I see your point daffy and dot.
afcan....doesn't a match last one and a half hours then?

Not with the extra time they keep getting at Old Trafford, sqad.
Funny that isn't it tony! They always seem to get just enough time to either equalise or go one up (o_0)
You see sqad the thing is you don't find it disrespectful because your not as good a person as those who do you just dont *care* enough.

Personally I can't understand all these people who won't donate their life saving to the legion and have poppies tatooed on their chests

Don't they realise these people gave their lives? - it makes me want to weep!

Competetive empathy? where?

Just because someone doesn`t wear a poppy doesn`t mean they are disrespectful

The pin that holds the poppy may constitute a health & safety issue?
Liverpool are going about it in a different way.
Before Monday nights game with Birmingham City there will be a 1 Min Silence in Honour.
There will also be a collection at the match plus all the players shirts on the night will be Auctioned off and all money raised will go to the local British Legion Poppy Appeal
