Setting the timing on a Citroen ZX 1.4i 1994
is it easily done, does anyone know where i can find some simple instructions on how to do it.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.thanks for your advice, i know what ya mean and ive been tempted to do that but i would like to learn how to do it myself. i'm doing a motor vehicle engineering course at college so it would seem silly to get someone else to do it when i will have to learn to do it at some point anyway. i'm determined to get the car to its full potential on my own if you know what i mean. lol :)

hmmm with this extra info maybe a suggestion of talking to your tutor and having them advice you " being on scene so to speak " they could walk you through this . and having trained " ear " would know if you set it correctly.
if your talking the main timing and not the elctronic timing then you will need to be looking towards the timing belt and the bottom pully for the markings which will be in your manuel. " be warned getting this wrong will cause valve damage at the very least "

i assume a ZX is an all electronic ignition vehicle, in which case there is no real adjustment of it, in the old days it was done by rotating the distributor, modern engines are controled by sensors which are not adjustable. The electronics automaticaly adjust the timing of the engine for optimum running, there is a way of bypassing all this which is what the tuning guys do by remapping the ECU with a laptop and the correct software , a whole new ball game...not really worth the effort on a 94 ZX
