Very Astute.

She called the 1982 election two years before she needed to. She rode the wave of euphoria after victory in the Falklands, and managed to increase the Government's majority. Not bad after the shaky start to her reign.

If you listened to competing policians on last night's Newsnight program it would have done your head in Putting spin into our massive borrowing makes you think politicians are living on a different planet.

We are drowning in a sea of debt. You don't think about growth and future possibilities until you have cleared up the past mess first. As an analogy if someone gets himselg severely into debt you don't go on a spending spree as if there's no tomorrow. It only leads to greater misery further down the road. To leave it all to future generations to sort out is no different from building more nuclear power stations where there is nowhere to store the waste.

A reality check is called for!
