Obituary in Hinckley 2003
Can anyone from the Burbage/Hinckley area of Leicestershire tell me if there is a local newspaper that might have archives on the obituary section for a death in 2003? Help appreciated.

There has to be something particularly 'newsworthy' about the person or circumstances for a death to interest the news editor. Very few local newspaper carry 'obituary' sections (in the way that the 'heavyweight' national titles do). A person has to be particularly noteworthy within the community if their death is to prompt the features editor to carry an obituary. (Even funeral announcements are quite rare these days. The relatives of a deceased person are more likely to use letters, phone or email to inform interested parties about funeral arrangements).

Hi DSJ,I live in Leicester, Hinckley is one of the main towns in Leicestershire. There is the Hinckley Times but you might also try www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk, this is what we call the Leicester Mercury and every night there is an obit page, just because someone lived in the county doesn't necessarily mean therie family would only announce this in a local paper, like the Times. It's worth a go I suppose, if not let me know and I will try and find out any information for you.
