even though the fact that there is an election soon was only announced today, my mum was given hundreds off leaflets about labour, to put through letters boxes on sunday, was first asked if she could do it on thursday, but told not to do distribute them until this afternoon . . . .

Do you think labour decided a couple of weeks ago when the election would be and made loads of campaign stuff, so that they'd have a head start?
does it have the election date on it?
The date was the worst kept secret for years I hope she shredded all leaflets
Question Author
well we thought they were just general randomness about the labour party, some councillor has retired and they're helping someone else campaign for the position but looking at them closely, they refer to natioanl things aswell . . .
They have known for ages mollykins and kept everyone guessing. Most people assumed it would be May 6th.
Question Author
she promised she'd give them out, there's no date, but there are things of a national level about the party.
There were going to be local elections on the 6th of May anyway and there had to be one by the 3rd of June so 6th of May was no real surprise to anybody
Question Author
which they probably wouldn't have included if there wasn't going to be a national, general election soon, would they?
its unerving isnt it, to think that they may know something long before they tell the public.

Makes you wonder if there may ever be other things that they keep quiet about
Question Author
but like jake said, there had to be a general election in the next few months anyway, but if there weren't going to be one so soon, would they have put the information in and told us not to start delivering them until this afternoon unless it was a clue that there would be a general election soon?
they knew they would announce it, whilst its fresh in peoples minds they wanted to leaflet drop.

They will have had paperwork ready for months, just waiting for final edit if anything important came up.

The Lib Dems send out leaflets all the time

But the funny thing is, she doesn'y know who she'll vote for, its a long story but . . .

my mum delivers leaflets in the local area, she also knows people that are on the coucil and are apart of labour, so they asked her to deliver the leaflets for them, but she isn't impressed with labour at the moment so didn't read them but because she's friends with these people, said she would deliver them. Anyway i had a look at one and saw that there were national policies, which i thought was odd, as it was about electing a local councilor, and then i thought it was a bit odd, so posted it on here, to see peoples opinions. . . .
I don't think it's odd at all, the date's been bandied about for weeks..... and I'm not surprised either that the leaflets talk about national policies. We are voting for a new Government not for local councillors, it's national policies they are interested in.
electing a local councillor? like in Town Council or district? maybe they are have a local byelection too.

I dont think they check who their leaflet droppers vote for
Question Author
na mum only did it because she had leaflets to drop anyway and she's friends with the person trying to be elected.
I am standing as a conservative councillor and also leaflet drop and canvass.

I was asked last week if I could leaflet drop on Tues 12 noon - Fri Noon as the first 3 days after an election is announced is a key period.

Personally i don't think it is as important this year because I believe a lot of decisions will be made after the three leaders debate on tv.
